  • Training of research students in physiology of trees and crop plants, silviculture, beneficial microbes, mycorrhizal fungi, edible fungi and certain plant diseases (Australia, China, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.).
  • Mineral nutrition of tree and field crops.
  • The structure and physiology of ectomycorrhizas and the use of fungi and bacteria for improving the growth of trees in plantations.
  • Plant-microbe interactions.
  • Project leader for Industry and Government funded research.
  • Consultant to plantation managers and R & D staff on the health and nutrition of Australian and other trees in plantations, and on general silviculture.
  • Independent forester (ASIC registered).
  • Designing and running short-term training courses on tree nutrition and mycorrhizal technology for Thai Department of Agriculture, Thai Research Fund, BIOTROP Indonesia, Chinese Academy of Forestry and University of Viçosa, Brazil.

  • The selection of mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria for improving plant growth.

  • New plantation tree crops.

Over 170 research papers and books dealing with forestry and agriculture.
